Types of Visas

According to Georgian legislation, visas are divided into five main categories:

a) Diplomatic Visa (Category A)
b) Special Visa (Category B)
c) Ordinary Visa (Category C)
d) Immigration Visa (Category D)
e) Transit Visa (Category T)

Additionally, each category contains subcategories that define the specific purposes for which a visa is issued.

1. Diplomatic Visas

Diplomatic visas are issued to:
   •    Heads of state, high-ranking officials, and members of high-level delegations visiting Georgia for state, official, work, friendly, or unofficial visits, along with their accompanying family members.
   •    Consular officers and members of their families accredited to Georgia.
   •    Diplomatic couriers.
   •    Individuals coming to Georgia on a special diplomatic mission.

2. Special Visas

Special visas are issued to:
   •    Members of foreign delegations and holders of service/official passports traveling to Georgia for work visits, along with their accompanying family members and other associates.
   •    Administrative, technical, and service personnel of diplomatic missions, consular employees, service staff, their family members, and private household workers.

3. Ordinary Visas

Ordinary visas are issued to individuals traveling to Georgia for:
   •    Tourism.
   •    Visiting relatives and friends.
   •    Business meetings and negotiations.
   •    Participation in scientific seminars, conferences, research, teaching, cultural, or sports events.
   •    Journalism-related activities.
   •    Crew members of ships docked in Georgian ports.
   •    Humanitarian and charity work.
   •    Religious pilgrimages and establishing religious contacts.
   •    Serving as a guardian or custodian of a Georgian citizen.

4. Immigration Visas

Immigration visas are issued to individuals traveling to Georgia for:
   •    Studying or conducting research at an accredited educational institution.
   •    Studying in Georgia under international programs.
   •    Engaging in entrepreneurial activities in accordance with the Georgian law on entrepreneurs.
   •    Participating in scientific, sports, cultural, or educational missions.
   •    Practicing a freelance profession.
   •    Internships or voluntary work in Georgia.
   •    Employment in mass media organizations.
   •    Family reunification.
   •    Individuals who own real estate in Georgia (excluding agricultural land) with a market value exceeding $100,000 (or its equivalent in Georgian Lari), as well as their spouses and children.
   •    Labor immigrants displaced from Georgia’s occupied territories.

5. Transit Visas

Transit visas are issued for the purpose of passing through Georgia to enter a third country, with a maximum duration of 10 days.
